Full Day Of Eating

I'm kicking off this Monday with a full day of eating from last week! Every day isn't perfect, and I try to just eat what feels GOOD. I don't count calories or macros, but I am mindful of them. For example, if I eat a breakfast that's higher in carbs (like a big acai bowl), then I'll try and focus more on proteins and healthy fats for my next meal. I feel the best when I get a good balance of everything at the end of the day, and it's just what works for me!

PRE-BREAKFAST

I had warm lemon water with apple cider vinegar first thing (read the benefits of that HERE), and then brewed some crio bru (read the benefits HERE) and took it on our morning walk. We live 5 minutes away from a High School track, so we head there and do a few laps every morning.

This looks incredibly unappetizing haha, but it's what most of my meals look like. I've been eating overnight oats daily lately and I'm still not sick of it. I combine 1/2 cup oats, 3/4 cup liquid (I usually just use water), and 1 scoop of IdealRaw chocolate peanut butter protein (use SWOLE for 10% off) and store in the fridge. When I'm ready to eat it, I add peanut butter, strawberries, and hemp seeds, and it's so filling, good for the milk supply, and tastes so good!

I had leftovers from the sweet potato nachos I made for dinner the night before. I posted the recipe HERE. The leftovers are just as good and I had to have two bowls.

Alright. WHY HAVE I NEVER TRIED DATES BEFORE?? WHY?!? I saw a box at Trader Joes last week, and I always see people using them in recipes, so I figured...sure, why not. I tried one when I got home, and I never got around to using the rest of them in a recipe because they're so good! Holy moly. I had a couple with peanut butter and hemp seeds on top, and it was so tasty. 

DINNER

I talked my mum and sister into going to Protein Foundry for dinner with me, and we all got acai bowls (Piper and I shared mine). I love this place. 

SNACK

I went to the gym after Jack and Piper went down, and finished with another IdealRaw chocolate protein shake, along with a scoop of Collagen For Her collagen peptides. 

Friday Favourites

Nothing like kicking off your weekend with some Good For The Swole reading, am I right? This week has been a little up and down, so I'm pretty glad it's over. Before heading off to enjoy the weekend, I wanted to share a little roundup of things that I'm loving lately - obviously pregnancy, baby, and health related!

The Planet Box I ordered for Piper arrived this week and I love it! I've mentioned this before, but I'm really trying to be more eco-friendly, and reduce my plastic use. I'm especially making an effort to eliminate the use of plastic with my food! I've also been looking for something simple that we can take to the beach or park and enjoy a little picnic with, and this has been PERFECT! I chose the Rover style because the compartments looked like the best fit for us, and Piper loooves it! I've actually also been letting Piper use it on our living room or playroom floor, which helps with the whole throwing-her-food-off-the-highchair phase we're currently going through.

PUMPKIN CHOCOLATE CHIP BREAD

I shared this little video clip of Piper and I making paleo pumpkin chocolate chip bread from a couple of weeks ago and I wanted to also share a picture of it here, along with saving the recipe, because IT.WAS.AMAZING!! I was planning on taking a picture of the loaf when it came out of the oven too, but I was stupid and didn't let it cool first, so let's just say we ate the loaf in chunks rather than slices (I'm an idiot). Definitely make this, and definitely let it cool first! Recipe HERE (adapted from HERE).

I want to write a whole post about Tubby Todd because I have so much more to say about this product, BUT to sum it up - I highly recommend this brand! I've been really working on improving the quality of the food in our home, and I'm also beginning to focus on the quality of cleaning and household products as well. It's definitely a process, and I have MUCH more to learn and improve on, but you have to start somewhere! Obviously one of the first things I've been concerned about is what I am putting on Piper's little body. I have been using Tubby Todd on Pipes because their products are 100% natural, simple, and safe. Plus they work WONDERS. Honest. Piper's skin is so soft, it immediately gets rid of any dryness, and it smells amazing!

CREAMY CHICKEN PESTO PASTA

I can't take credit for this quick dinner, because Laura, from @fitasgluck, posted the step-by-steps on her Insta story, but I've made it a few times because it's amazing! It's one of those meals I make when I don't feel like cooking, or when I haven't planned anything, because I always have the ingredients on hand. Give it a try!

INGREDIENTS:

  • Banza pasta
  • 2 heads of broccoil
  • Cooked chicken 
  • Kite Hill chive cream cheese (can also use Arla herbs & spices spread or Laughing Cow garlic & herb wedges, but I recommend Kite Hill first)
  • Pesto (I make mine with basil, olive oil, salt & pepper, and garlic. I just keep adding more of certain ingredients until it tastes the way I want it to)

DIRECTIONS:

Roast broccoli in the oven at 375 for about 35 minutes (I season mine with Trader Joes 21 Seasoning Salute. Cook Banza pasta according to package directions. Drain the pasta, and add to a large mixing bowl, along with roasted broccoli and cooked chicken. Try to time it so everything is cooked and hot at the same time. Add in 1/2 a container of Kite Hill Chive cream cheese spread and mix everything together (you want everything to be hot so the cream cheese melts and spreads easily). Add 2 tbsp of homemade pesto and viola!

Friday Favourites

Happy Fridayyy!! Piper is napping (thank the heavens, amirite?) and I'm scrambling to get things in order before the little tornado wakes up again. I love her so much, but man am I ready for weekend because this preggo lady needs one big nap.

Moving on.

 I haven't done a "favourite" post thing in a bit, so here are some things I am loving as of late. Happy weekend! Here's to hoping we all get a nap at some point!   

WORKOUT CHALLENGE

I mentioned this on my Instagram HERE, but next week (starting on Monday) I'm doing a little week-of-workouts for whoever wants to join in! I created 5 different workouts for the week (a lower body, 2 full bodys, an upper body, and a core/glute workout) that are easy to follow, and are can be done at home! I made two, a regular one, and one that is suitable for pregnant/newly postpartum women. I thought it would be a fun way to do something different, get in some good workouts, and have some accountability!

CAST IRON SKILLET

Okay, I'm a little late to the game here...but I bought a cast iron skillet on Amazon this week and I am OBSESSED!! I've been making frittatas and healthy desserts with it non-stop. I've been slowly trying to get a little more non-toxic with my products and supplies, and this is such a simple transition. I can't wait to share some of the recipes I've been using! 

IDEALRAW PROTEIN POWDER

Snapchat (username: goodfortheswole) has heard me talk about IdealRaw a hundred times already (err, sorry 'bout that), but I'm a huge fan of this protein! Since getting pregnant with Piper, I started paying more attention to exactly WHAT I was putting into my body. I don't think protein powder is essential for a healthy diet, but for a busy new mum like me, it's a life saver and it's so convenient. The problem I found with most protein powders is that they a) are super "clean", but taste absolutely rancid or b) are PACKED with tons of artificial sweeteners. I was previously using protein powder that, while I liked the ingredients, I didn't love the taste. 

I looked into IdealRaw, and I really like the ingredients (everything is organic and it's sweetened with a little stevia which, while I try to stay away from added sweeteners, I don't mind a little stevia here and there). It's also tastes goooood! 

Anyway, this is the protein I've been taking throughout this pregnancy, and I LOVE it! The chocolate peanut butter protein is my favourite, closely followed by vanilla and chocolate. I also love the superfood blend! You can use "SWOLE" for 10% any product on their website (even during sales).  

CHICKEN WILD RICE SOUP

I've been eating this on repeat this week because Jordan has been super sick, and hasn't wanted anything for dinner, which means I don't feel the need to make dinner from scratch errnight. Piper and I have been DIGGING this soup! I got the recipe off Pinterest, HERE (I didn't add in the butter and I added green beans too), and it's a crockpot so #easy! Plus I love knowing we're getting in all the goods with one dish!
