Friday Favourites

Except on Monday. It’s all good. I have my life together, I swear…

Here are some of my favourite things that I find helpful in regards to being a mum, and trying to live a healthy lifestyle! Happy Monday!!

TRUE LEMON + COLLAGEN PEPTIDES

IMG_7336.JPG

I have been drinking this mix regularly since the beginning of the summer, so I have no clue why I’m only posting about it now. True Lemon is a natural mix that I like drinking during the afternoon to mix up plain water. I add in Collagen For Her collagen peptides (I believe “GOODFORTHESWOLE” gets you 10% off) because they are unflavoured and it’s just an easy way to sneak in collagen.

MENTAL HEALTH

IMG_7328.PNG

I’ve always known mental health is important, but going through a divorce has given me a whole new appreciation for it, and I see the direct impact it has on physical and just overall health. IT IS SO IMPORTANT. I recently started following Alexa Allred (@allredyalexa) on Instagram. She is a Mental Health Therapist, and shares helpful tips, advice, and mental health education on her page. Even just seeing her posts and stories pop up are a nice reminder every day to check in and make sure my mental health is taken care of too!

SHARK MOP

FullSizeRender.jpg

When I went to Washington D.C. to visit a friend a couple of months ago, she was raaaving about her new Shark mop. You know you’re old when you get so excited about cleaning supplies haha. I ordered one on Amazon, and it really is the best! Jack and Piper are the messiest eaters known to mankind, so meal times look like a giant food fight took place. It’s so easy to just plug this mop in, and quickly sanitize the floors. It uses steam which I love because Jack’s crawls around the floors, and having chemicals all over the place stress me out. You just add water, and the steam kills 99.9% of germs and bacteria. I could go on and on, but just go and read the reviews. I’m a fan!

WORKOUT SUBSCRIPTION

IMG_6239.JPG

Obviously, I’m going to bring up my newest workout subscription! This one is designed for anyone wanting to workout effectively from home! I don’t get to workout at the gym very often, so most of my workouts happen from home. I know a lot of women/mothers can’t get to the gym either, so I hope this helps! For more information, go HERE!

NURSING SPORTS BRA

IMG_7335.JPG

Senita Athletics just released another style of nursing sports bras. Since starting Good For The Swole, I’ve had the chance to try nursing sports bras from different companies. Senita Athletics are hands down my FAAAAVOURITE nursing sports bras. They are comfortable, supportive, and the padding inside doesn’t bunch up when you pull it down to nurse (you know what I mean????). I have a smaller chest, so both styles of nursing sports bras work great for me, and I love them both. Their newest one has more coverage, and offers more support. If you have a larger chest, I’d opt for this one, but both are AWESOME!!

Costco Favourites

Happy Tuesday! Whenever I go to Costco and post a story of Piper and Jack in the shopping cart together (how can I not??? It’s the sweetest thing seeing them next to each other), I get asked what I buy and if I’ll do a Costco haul.

I wasn’t quite sure what the best way to share my favourites are, so I snapped a picture of the products I usually get as I walked around the store, and called it good haha. These are the foods I typically get from Costco whenever I need to restock (other than fresh produce), and are all ones I love! I’m sure I’m forgetting some, so I’ll continually update this post.

Friday Favourites

We got back from a family vacation to Newport Beach yesterday evening, and there is a true MOUNTAIN of clothes on my bed just waiting to be sorted and put away. Holidays are the best, but unpacking is the worst, especially with little kids stuff too.

We're easing back into our regular routine today, and I wanted to throw up this Friday Favourites post because it's been a minute, and I have a list of things that I love/have found really helpful lately. I hope you find them helpful too! HAPPY FRIDAY!!!

LOOPY CASES

IMG_9739.JPG

I bought this Loopy Case back in February, so I'm not sure why I'm only sharing it now, but it's amazing! I used to drop my phone at least 10x a day (triple that if we're counting how many times Piper dropped it a day). I think I've only dropped it like...maybe once since getting this case. It has a loop at the back for you to hold onto it, and it makes it so nice when I have my hands full with Jack, bags, keys, toys, etc. because I just loop a finger through and I'm good to go. It's honestly been a game changer since having kids, and I'll never go back to a regular case.

I don't have a discount code with them, but I follow someone who does! Hers is "SWENSON10" and gets you 10% off if you're interested! I have the White Marble Original.

NATIVE

IMG_4370.JPG

My sisters all use Native shoes for their kids, and I finally got some on Amazon a couple of weeks ago for Piper. THEY ARE THE BEST FOR TODDLERS! They are waterproof, easy for them to put on by themselves, lightweight, and they don't rub. Piper's been wearing them non-stop since I got them. They have a 4.5 out of 5 star rating on Amazon, with over 2,300 reviews...so you know they're leeeegit!

VROOM

IMG_4555.PNG

Someone on Instagram posted about this app, so I downloaded it and LOVE it! They post a different learning activity to do with your child each day (you can add multiple kids and each has a different activity based on their age). I love doing this kind of stuff with my kids, but I run out of ideas, so this is really helpful, and you can set a reminder too!

ART SMOCK

IMG_4132.JPG

I took the kids to Ikea a couple of weeks ago, and saw this smock in the kids section. Piper is probably THE messiest toddler in the planet. She is a true savage when it comes to eating, colouring, and painting. Need I remind anyone of her painting a few weeks ago (see picture below). I never want to limit her creativity, but also...can you not, Piper. It was only $4.99 at Ikea (I don't know why it's more expensive on Amazon), but either way, it's been perfect to let her create, but also limit the clean up. She calls it her "painting dress", and it goes all the way down to her toes!

FullSizeRender.jpg
IMG_2609.JPG

Piper has the best curly hair, but it always has to be tied or clipped back otherwise she can't see a thing haha. I LOVE these headbands from Why Knot Bows because they are soooo cute, and also do an awesome job at keeping her hair back. They come in the best colours too! I love all the neutral and fall colours.

Friday Favourites

Another Monday where I share "Friday Favourites" because I forgot to post it last Friday. It's hard to say if I'll ever get my act together. Oh well. Happy Monday!! Here's to a new day, a new week, and a fresh start.

THE DOTTI SHOP

IMG_9812.JPG

I got a couple of outfits from the DOTTI. Shop, and they are DARLING! I can't stop squeezing Piper and taking pictures of her in them because they are soooo so cute. I got this Louise Shimmer Pearl dress that Piper is wearing (it's on sale right now!) and the Blake Matching Set from the spring line which is SO cute! I got a size 2, but it was actually a bit too small for Piper, and it accidently got washed before I could exchange it. I'd learn from my mistake and properly check the size chart before ordering! They're all so cute and perfect for summer. You can use BECKY20 for 20% off your order too!

BUMBO

IMG_1460.JPG

I use Jack's bumbo multiple times every day. He started sitting in it around 3/4 months, when he was totally able to hold up his own head. I feed him in either his bumbo or the high chair, and he honestly just likes chilling in there. He loves seeing what's going on, and it's nice being able to keep my eye on him while I cook meals, and while we eat our breakfast/lunches. I know it's so well known already, but if you haven't heard of them yet, I love mine and highly recommend it!

INSTANT POT

FullSizeRender.jpg

I finally got an instant pot for Christmas, after hearing everyone rave about it, and let me tell you...THE HYPE IS REAL. Especially if you are a mother. Holy moly. I can make a full blown dinner in record speed (20 minutes in the instant pot vs. 4 hours in the crockpot), and you can steam or sauce veggies, make hard boiled eggs, greek yogurt, and so many other things I haven't even figured out yet. It can also be used as a rice cooker or crockpot! It's totally worth it, and everything I have tried has turned out perfect! This sounds like an ad haha, which it isn't. It should be though, because I think I'm doing an awesome job at selling it. Really though, my instant pot has been a life changing for pulling together quick meals.

LOWER BODY WORKOUT

I've been really into this type of set up for my workouts lately, because it does such a good job at getting in a good sweat without requiring a lot of time. This is the lower body workout I did at home last week, and I loved it!

IMG_1718.JPG
IMG_1714.JPG

I bought this charcoal face mask for my mum a couple of months ago, but really it was a present for myself because I love it and use it all the time! She's so lucky to have me living with her again. I've brought up self care a few times on here over these past few months, but it means more to me now than ever, and is something I think is so important in general. With two little ones, I'm not able to put myself first 99.9% of the time, but doing little things to show myself some love helps me stay positive and feel like I can handle difficult situations. This mask feels amazing, and it does a great job at cleansing and getting rid of the toxins in my skin. Just a simple self care product I like incorporating once a week!

Friday Favourites

IMG_0587.JPG

I've been working on eating more natural foods, and finding the best sources to put into my body. I still have a ways to go, but I've also been trying to find and use better natural products that I put ON my body. Deodorant was the first one I looked into because, since it goes on the armpit, it is absorbed and goes right into the body's system. Most deodorants contain chemicals and aluminum, which have been directly linked to breast cancer and Alzheimers disease. I've tried a few different brands, but Schmidt's Naturals is my favourite! I got it on Amazon, and it works great!

COLLAGEN PEPTIDES

IMG_0586.JPG

I started using collagen peptides in my diet while I was breastfeeding Piper, and I've been using it ever since! There are TONS of benefits to using collagen (an in-depth list can be found HERE), and is something I use every day in either my post workout protein shakes, energy balls, pancakes, oatmeal, and even lemon water (it's unflavoured, so you can't taste it). The two brands I love are Collagen For Her and Vital Proteins.

**It's recommended to run any product by your OWN doctor if you are pregnant or nursing. I, personally, used it while pregnant and while breastfeeding both babies.

MADE BY MARY

 Jack's eyes are a little inflamed from his eczema. It still flares up from time to time, but it's SO much better!

Jack's eyes are a little inflamed from his eczema. It still flares up from time to time, but it's SO much better!

I have a necklace with just Piper's name on it, but I have been looking for a different one for both kids. I decided to get THIS necklace from Made By Mary, that says "piper + jack". It is beautiful and I have taken it off since it arrived. I also got THIS necklace that says "mama", and THIS bracelet. I love, love, love all of the pieces, and they mean so much to me.

NURSING DRESS

IMG_0590.JPG

I bought this dress from Roolee a couple of months ago, and it has been perfect! I love dresses in the summer but, unless there are buttons at the top, they're a bit tricky to wear when breastfeeding. This dress has little zippers on the sides (that are hidden in the seam), so it's easy to nurse! They have tons of nursing friendly dresses, that are also cute and don't look so "mum-ish", if you know what I mean.

PRE-WORKOUT

IMG_0588.JPG

I first tried out THIS pre-workout  a couple of months ago, and I surprisingly really like it! I tried pre-workout once before, awhile ago, and hated it because it made me so jittery and want to scratch my face off. They have other products, but I love the all-natural one. You can take it like a pixie stick, or mix it with water and drink 15 minutes before your workout. It has helped me push myself a lot more (I generally feel pretty motivated to workout, but I've noticed I get a lot more out of my workouts when I use this). I am breastfeeding, and my doctor is fine with me taking this. It has 100mg of caffeine, and is the only caffeine source I consume. As always, please do your own research and consult your doctor if you are nursing.

2 Years of Piper

My sweet Piper is TWO years old now, and is growing into the sweetest, sassiest little girl. She's so spicy, and although it's hard at times, I love her independence and stubborn nature. I'm trying to teach her to share, be kind, be quick to apologize, to forgive, and to love, but also I'm loving all these natural personality traits she has that are coming out.

2 Years Of Piper || goodfortheswole.com

She is SO smart and chats 99.9% of the day. I love having conversations with her, and listening to her express what she is thinking and feeling. She has to say bye to everything she sees whenever she leaves a room - so it's a long list of "bye lamp. bye shoes. bye chair. bye water" whenever we go anywhere haha. It's the best.

She LOVES drawing and colouring, and begs me to draw "tiny socks" all day long haha. I honestly have no idea where that came from, but I'm getting really good at drawing socks.

2 Years Of Piper || goodfortheswole.com

She is still the messiest eater I've ever come across. It's unreal. I hoped it was just a phase, but it doesn't seem to have improved so...yippee.

2 Years Of Piper || goodfortheswole.com

She LOVES Jack. Like really, really loves him. She requests to see him as soon as she wakes up, and aggressively kisses him all day long. Whenever he cries she says, "OH HONEY!", and strokes his head over, and over again. She is so compassionate, and whenever anyone is sad, or whenever I hurt myself, she drops everything to offer a hug and comfort.

2 Years Of Piper || goodfortheswole.com

I started potty training her a few days before her second birthday, and she has transitioned SO well! She picked it up quickly, and made it so easy on me. I think she owed me from all of the poop massacres I've cleaned up from her taking off her diaper during nap/bedtime. Don't worry - it's only happened 10 times. She just wears diapers for naps and at night now, and takes herself to the potty during the day. It's so nice only changing one baby's diapers now.

2 Years Of Piper || goodfortheswole.com

She's definitely entered the "terrible twos", and is probably one of the bossiest kids in town, but I love her to death, and I am so grateful for her. She brings so much happiness to my life, and I can't wait to continue watching her grow and develop into a little girl.

Dealing With Stress

Thank you to Febreze ONE for sponsoring this post. I was compensated for my time, but the product review reflect my own opinion.

Dealing With Stress || goodfortheswole.com

Being a mother of two littles so close in age is obviously a bit stressful, and becoming a single mum while doing it has added a liiiiiittle more stress to the mix. I wouldn't say I am a pro at dealing with it by ANY means, but I am learning, taking it day by day, and doing what I can.

No matter what kind - or degree - of stress is going on, I think it's incredibly important to acknowledge it - and find simple ways to handle it. Stress has a HUGE impact on our health, and overall well-being, and it can wreak havoc on our system if we don't find healthy ways to address it.

5 WAYS I DEAL WITH STRESS

Dealing With Stress || goodfortheswole.com

ENVIRONMENT: One of the biggest things that adds to, or takes away from, my stress is my environment. If there are piles of laundry to put away, toys everywhere, etc., my stress level increases by like 100%. There's not a whole lot I can do about the toy situation, because Piper is a messy tornado, but keeping things as clean as possible makes me feel like I somewhat have my life together.

Dealing With Stress || goodfortheswole.com

Febreze sent me their newest product, Febreze ONE Fabric & Air Mist, that is free of aerosols, dyes, and heavy perfumes, and I've been spraying it around the house daily. Having a clean and fresh smelling environment helps so much with stress and brings me a "ONE state of mind". Febreze ONE doesn't have that overpowering "fake" smell that a lot of air fresheners have (and that leave me with a headache, honestly). Having a nice smelling environment seems so simple, but it has made a massive difference for me. My favourite is the bamboo scent because it leaves a light, simple freshness, and bamboo is actually known to help people feel calm. Sign me up!

Dealing With Stress || goodfortheswole.com

MOVEMENT: It's only obvious that I'd include this one, but it has been a huge help. I don't have any postpartum goals like I did after having Piper, because I'm in a different stage in life now. Instead, I tune into my body every day, and figure out what it wants and what will help me feel the best. Sometimes it will be a hard, sweaty workout, but most of the time it's a long walk outside, or an easy run, or even just some stretching. Often my body just wants rest - and I respect that. Sometimes exercise can be the BEST stress reliever, but other times it can add to stress and make the situation worse. Checking in with myself every day helps me figure out what my body needs.

JOURNALING: I used to be an avid journal writer, which is probably why I like blogging. I actually haven't done it as much since having Piper, but my therapist got me started on writing in a journal every day now. It helps me get my thoughts out on paper, acknowledge how I am feeling, and address my emotions. While it hasn't taken away any stress, it helps me deal with it in a healthy way.

Dealing With Stress || goodfortheswole.com

NOURISHMENT: Another no-brainer, but this one is huge. It's no secret that there's a huge link between nutrition and stress. We can't often change the amount of stress we're facing, BUT we can choose what we put into our bodies - which can either help, or make the situation worse. Sure there are days I don't have much of an appetite, or there are days all I want is chocolate and ice cream, but for the most part, I try fueling my body up with tons of nutrients because it makes me FEEL good.

Dealing With Stress || goodfortheswole.com

RELAXATION: The last thing that has helped me deal with stress in a healthy way, is doing something relaxing every day. Having two little ones makes this a quite challenging, but I often take just 5 minutes during nap time, spray some Febreze ONE to set the mood (I'm not just saying that, I really do), put some calming music on, and just clear my head. It helps me check in with myself and let go of the stress and negativity that's circling through my head.

Current Favourites

Well. This is embarrassing because I intended to get this post up on Friday (aka Friday Favourites), but one thing led to another, and here I am on a Monday finally getting to it. I'm not cut out for this Instagram/blogger world, I'll tell ya.

Anyway, I still wanted to share some of my favourite health-related things right now! A lot of my favourite things come from things others share, so I'm passing on the love, and hopefully someone finds this helpful!

Happy Monday!!!

CRIO BRU

Favourite Things || goodfortheswole.com

I've never had coffee (I don't drink it for religious reasons), but I've always loved the idea of having a hot drink in the morning to get the day started. Some friends made us Crio Bru one evening a couple of years ago, and I really liked it, so I finally ordered some on Amazon, and have been drinking it every morning. It's made from 100% roasted cacao beans (the grounds smell like dark chocolate!), It's super high in antioxidants, is a natural source of energy, stimulates the metabolism, and is packed with vitamins and minerals. Crio Bru is by far my new favourite thing right now!

BAMBO NATURE

Favourite Things || goodfortheswole.com

I switched to these diapers a couple of months before Jack was born, and whenever I have to use another brand (if I run out and have to borrow one or something), I'm reminded of why I love Bambo Nature diapers so much. First of all they're eco-friendly which is amazing, second, they work SO well. Piper's had hers completely filled with water before, and it still somehow stayed secure. Most importantly, they are free of harmful chemicals and all known allergens. I've mentioned this a lot, but Jack has super sensitive skin, and has trouble with eczema, and he's never once had any kind of diaper rash or sores, but did immediately when I had to use another diaper brand. I love LOVE this company, and I also use their mineral sunscreen for my babes!

IDEAL RAW

Favourite Things || goodfortheswole.com

I talk about Ideal Raw ALLLL the time on Instagram, but it has been a favourite for a long, long time now. They have TONS of products (protein, superfood, green powder, matcha, coconut oil, chia seeds, probiotic, etc.), and they are all made with clean, organic ingredients. I used Ideal Raw protein throughout my whole pregnancy, and still use it while I'm nursing. Protein powders can be PACKED with artificial ingredients, and this is one of the few I felt comfortable taking while growing, and now nourishing, a little babe (make sure you talk to your own doctor before taking ANY supplement). It's also a plant based protein, which is great while nursing, because often whey protein often upsets babies tummies.

My favourite flavours are 1. chocolate peanut butter 2. superberry (AMAZING in smoothies) 3. chocolate and 4. vanilla. I drink them after a workout, add them into oatmeal, smoothies, energy balls, pancakes...pretty much anything haha. You can use my code "SWOLE" for 10% off any of their products!!

FAMILY LASER

Favourite Things || goodfortheswole.com

How cute is this cutting board?? I got it from Family Laser, and I'm obsessed with it. They do custom designs, so a common one is to have your family last name, or a significant date, or something like that, but having Good For The Swole on it makes me feel pretty legit, not gonna lie.

COCONUT OIL

Favourite Things || goodfortheswole.com

I use coconut oil for E-V-E-R-YTHING. I mean it. I cook with it, add it into my Crio Bru (if I'm feeling fancy), add it into energy balls, put it in my hair every now and then before showering (I'm bad at remembering to do this, but when I do it's the best), and use it in the shower (I rub it all over my body, and let the water take some of it off, and leave the rest on. It's the best moisturizer, and my skin feels incredible afterwards). It's also great to use on the belly during pregnancy to help with the itching and stretch marks. Also, I use it to shave my legs! There are so many great uses, and each one reaps the benefits that coconut oil has to offer!

Also, has anyone heard of oil pulling? It's this new trend where you swish coconut oil in your mouth for 15 minutes, and it's supposed to help reduce toxins and also whiten your teeth. I haven't done it yet...but there's another use!
